Ayurveda Medicine
Ayurveda ("Science of Life") is a 5,000+ year-old system of holistic medicine from India that beautifully integrates the body, mind and spirit/soul in the maintenance of health and prevention and treatment of disease. Pashu Ayurveda, the veterinary science branch of Ayurveda, has existed for several thousand years, and though it was originally used to treat elephants, cows and horses, its principles extend to the care of animals of all species.
Just like each of us, every creature has their own unique constitution made up of a combination of 3 doshas or fundamental energies (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). These doshas are made up of 5 elements (ether/space, air, fire, water, and earth), and when these doshas are balanced for a particular individual, that being is considered to be in a state of optimal health. When these doshas become imbalanced due to diet, lifestyle/environment, medications or other factors including season and stage of life, various conditions and diseases can manifest. My aim is to restore balance of your pet’s doshas and help manage current medical concerns by addressing diet and lifestyle/environment and incorporating herbal medicines and topical therapies (oils and steam). Marma points, which are similar to acupuncture points, are commonly used with topical oil and steam therapy for many conditions.
Ayurveda can help manage various conditions including:
Allergies & inflammatory disorders, including skin/dermatological issues, asthma and immune-mediated disease
Gastrointestinal conditions including food sensitivities
Arthritis & musculoskeletal pain
Endocrine disorders including diabetes and thyroid imbalances
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) & kidney disease
